Betrayed!

The bus crept slowly ahead in the maddening traffic as hunger crept lazily into my stomach like a snake slittering through the grass, flushing away the worries of Amaka from my mind.

My stomach churned incessantly like a whirlpool seeking a bottomless pit. I felt the stings and the daggers of hunger has it waged wars within the canals of my stomach. I stifled a yawn, but a groan escaped nonetheless, and a little belch to signal the beast would no longer be still. My belly grumbled and did a little dance to urge me closer to the refuge of mama put.

But I will not have it! The thought of Amaka's betrayal occupied my mind once more as the bus lurched and sidled this way and that way like a drunken old man. I gripped my knee tightly and pressed my lips together in anguish. I blinked back a tear. Men don't cry!

Yet, I was hurting inside.  The betrayal stung like the needle that pierced the fingers of Aurora. I fought the urge to rent my heart out, but a tear trickled down. Then finally, the tears came down torrentially, unbidden, and drenched my shirt collars. I weeped, right there in the bus! It couldn't be helped anymore!
