He pointed his gun at the gloom. He felt himself shudder as he sidestepped the bodies strewn on the floor. He could hear the report of automatic weapons and the screams of cops being mawed to death. A particular scream never quite made it; it began and then was cut off abruptly. He let out a sigh wondering why he was heading that way. He flashed his flashlight and approach as carefully as he could. He knew the creature was right there in the gloom. It loves the night that much he figured. He didn't know what the creature looked like. Well, if I knew that I'll be dead won't I? Nobody's made it back.
He approached carefully, trying not to make any sound, which was useless considering he was pointing a light that way anyway. Why was he heading there? He should turn back now and run, run for his life. Get out of there, come on, go, go, go! But he couldn't. He had a job to do; he had sworn an oath to protect the innocent. Yeah? How does going up against and unknown and very deadly creature factor into that? Now, everything was silent. As still as the hour before creation! That brooding on the surface of the deep path. So still. He broke out in a cold sweat. He practically swallowed his Adam apple. He felt himself shiver. Jesus, is it cold here all of a sudden? He wondered. He felt a movement in the gloom and instinctively raised his gun. He fired off a shot, shaking with fright.
What a brave cop I'm turning out to be. Phew!
Then he heard a growl. It was dangerously close. He turned to the left where the sound had come from. "Show yourself". He whispered despite himself. He knew he was going to die. He had it coming, but he wanted to see it; what it looked like. He didn't have long to wait. He felt something sharp pierce his neck. He howl as he was flung bodily in the air like a rag doll. He only saw glimpses of the creature. Something large, red eyes, gigantic teeth, scaly body. He felt himself land on the concrete floor. He felt pain shooting through his body. He knew so many things in his body were already broken. He tried to move his arms but discovered he couldn't. He felt the creature approaching stealthily. In a detached part of his mind he wondered how something so big could move so silently. He didn't have long to wonder. The creature closed in on him and just like that, he was gun!
