Fatal Crash

Maybe it was the beer he had drunk the night before, or perhaps, it was because he was running late to the meeting scheduled for nine. Jimi Awoyinka drove the Toyota Avalon like he was contesting for a place in Formula 1, in a Lagos highway! The poor machine wined and fumed as it sped its master to his destination. Jimi urged and pedaled, swerving in and out of traffic. Luckily, the traffic in Lagos was currently on the nice and free, nearly anyway.

Somewhere along Oworonshoki, Jimi pushed the highway horse to a hundred and eigthy-two, daring the god of the highway to stop him. Maybe he shouldn't have drunk that one last bottle of beer last night. Maybe he would've woken up early, maybe he wouldn't be speeding like the Flash to a meeting at Lekki.

Finally, he could see the Third Mainland Bridge looming ahead like the bridge to Heaven. He urged his Toyota Avalon unto it and floored his accelerator. He was really going now. The other cars were now a blur. He felt the power of it, almost got lost in it. The other motorist must be wondering at the madman driving so recklessly.

Maybe if he hadn't looked at his car clock, maybe if he had slow down just a bit while doing it, he wouldn't have lost fatal control of the car. As it happened, Jimi glanced briefly- a nanosecond actually- at his car clock which registered the time at 08:45am; he still had a long way to go and he was certain he couldn't beat the time. Well, that brief glance almost cost him his life- he lost control and sped the car into the side of the bridge. He bashed the entire front end and got caused serious damage to his spinal cord.
