A Tale of a Mighty Soldier

I once heard a tale of a great soldier who was faithful and loyal to the cause of his nation. This soldier had served from one regiment to another- ever faithful, ever loyal. So, there came a time, he was promoted to lead a strong regiment in need of a new leader. He took the job with a purpose for the future. He would build a regiment like no other and keep it strong.
The years went by and this once strong regiment became a shadow of its former self. His immediate second-in-command had left the regiment earlier on. So many more brave men and women subsequently had a cause to leave. This soldier had always felt he wasn't the type to lead an army, but he had been fantastic as the second-in-command of all the other regiments he was in.
Now, this soldier discovered he was blind. Others didn't see it, but he knew it. He had no vision for the army he led. Yes, he had a vision and a purpose for the nation, but not for the army. He couldn't see into the future for his regiment. He felt he was not where he should be. No amount of strategic and training meetings would help him see as he ought to, according to the army's methods.
Subsequently, he was promoted again, to be the leader of a cluster of regiments. He didn't take it with excitement as he had taken his first promotion. He was a blind man who couldn't see for his own regiment, now to lead other regiments as well? Well, this was a struggle for this soldier as he had begun to discover that although he was a mighty soldier who could lead, who was a leader in a every sense of the word, he wasn't exactly the material for a strong regiment leader; he just didn't have that drive. He knew- by insight and understanding- that he had a distinct purpose that was quite different from what he was to do being a regiment leader.
So, this soldier was in a quagmire, confused and tormented in his heart for he wanted, so desperately, to do the right thing. It seemed like he had become an enemy, but he sincerely had the interest of his nation at heart- to expand its territory and protect its interest against external aggression.
